FAQs

If you don't find an answer to your question here, please connect with me - I'm happy to reply by email, or set up a call to talk with you further.

How does payment work?

The fee for an individual session is $145.

As psychotherapists, we are required to charge HST on our fee.

Payment is expected at the time of service.  You can pay by e-transfer, cash or cheque.

Is this covered by insurance?

Yes - most insurance companies cover psychotherapy services by Registered Psychotherapists (RPs).  If you'd like to know for sure, you can contact your insurance company or talk with the HR representative at your place of work.  Once you've paid in full, you'll get an invoice that includes my RP licence number and this can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What if I miss an appointment?

Your appointment time is held especially for you.  As soon as you know you won't be able to make the appointment, please let me know and we can reschedule.  If this notice is less than 24 hours before the beginning of the appointment, you'll be asked to pay for 50% of the fee.  Reasonable consideration will be given for illness and emergencies.

What happens in therapy?

If this is your first rodeo, you may be curious (or even nervous!) about what it's like to go to therapy.  I've been there myself and I will do my best to help you feel comfortable.  In the first session, I'll be getting to know you and I'll ask questions about your life in general and some of your habits and patterns more specifically.  And, of course, we'll talk about what spurred you to take the step to start therapy.

Some people report that it can be a huge relief to finally start talking about what's going on inside their head and get it out.  Many people also find that leaning into the hard feelings and difficult conversations can feel heavy - especially in the first few sessions. Things may actually feel a little bit worse at first. This is normal and a healthy part of the process.  Therapy is intended to create a place where you can feel supported and resourced as you begin to get unstuck.

How often and for how long do I need to come?

Generally, for the first few sessions, we may meet every 2 or 3 weeks in order to establish a good baseline of working together. Depending on the issue we are addressing, we may continue at bi-weekly, or shift to spacing out the appointments.  Many clients find that it is important to have a few weeks between sessions to reflect and notice where things might be shifting.  Ultimately, the timing and pace will be determined by you.

Most areas of concern are addressed within a scope of 6 months or less.  Some clients prefer ongoing support and choose to continue on an regular bi-weekly basis.  Others will maintain monthly or periodic check-ins after a period of more intense work.  In all cases, the length of time will be completely up to you.

What if you can't help me?

That's a scary thought, and a very real fear that some people have.... what if I am beyond help and have to live like this for the rest of my life?  It's a question I've heard before in my practice.  In most cases, I have been able to address at least some portion of the distress.  And, I also have limitations and know my scope of practice.  To support your needs, I know a wide range of colleagues and other practitioners and modalities that I feel confident I'll be able to refer you or point you in the right direction.

More questions?

I'd love to hear from you!  Please reach out to me and I'll be happy to respond.  The only questions I don't like are the ones not asked.

If you'd like to chat, I offer a 15 minute brief consultation to touch base on the phone or online if you'd like to meet me and have all your questions ready.
